The lack of culturally relevant support in the mental health field is a major barrier keeping you from reaching your full potential.
Navigating a profession that wasn’t built for mental health therapists of color, like you, can be exhausting, and the lack of culturally informed resources only adds to the burden. Without the right support, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly hitting a wall.
As a therapist of color, you face challenges that aren’t just clinical—they’re systemic too.
One thing for certain, two things for sure - you’ve worked incredibly hard to become a therapist. You’ve put in the work, sacrificed your time, and committed yourself to a profession that demands heart, resilience, and a deep passion for helping others. As a BI&POC therapist, you’ve navigated the challenges of a predominantly White field, faced systemic barriers, and gone above and beyond to make sure your training was not just about techniques, but also about understanding the diverse realities of your clients.
But what happens when building and sustaining your practice comes with major hurdles? The kind of hurdles that exist when a system wasn’t designed with you (or many of your clients) in mind? The kind of hurdles that make this profession emotionally unsafe and perpetuates harm? The kind of hurdles that make you want to leave the profession all together?
Who’s your support system in those moments?
Who hears and affirms your concerns?
Who’s rooting for you to succeed?
When you don’t have culturally relevant support:
You feel isolated. Being one of the few, or only, therapist of color in your professional circles can make you feel isolated, with no one to turn to who truly understands your journey.
You burn out. The emotional labor of addressing racism, systemic oppression, and microaggressions - on top of your client work! - leads to burnout faster than it should.
Your practice suffers. Without access to resources, training, and business tools that address the unique challenges faced by BI&POC therapists, growing your practice can feel like an uphill battle.
Your clients miss out. Without the culturally relevant support you need, it’s harder to offer your clients the holistic, informed care they deserve.
We have your back.

Meet the Founder: Jocelyn W. Cooper
The Therapeutic Table was born out of frustration and fueled by a deep commitment to culturally relevant and responsive support for therapists of color. My journey in the mental health field has always been about challenging the status quo - from organizing antiracism book clubs to pushing for cultural competence training in every space I’ve been a part of.
Launching my private practice, Esprit Therapeutics, in 2020 was an eye opener: it was entirely too hard to find culturally relevant resources out there. The endless searches across Facebook groups, the hours spent trying to find CEUs that actually spoke to the nuances of being a therapist of color in a predominantly White profession, the utter lack of resources speaking to marketing to communities of color - it was exhausting! And that’s after recognizing that I’m coming into the business world at a double disadvantage - I didn’t learn how to run a business in grad school so I’m DIYing this whole thing, AND I’m a person of color (and woman!) trying to run a business while fighting all the systemic oppression to become successful.
The Therapeutic Table aims to eliminate these barriers by creating a one-stop platform for BI&POC therapists to find community, professional growth, and culturally informed resources. We’ve seen it time and time again - people of color thrive in environments designed with their needs in mind, so why not create that space for therapists of color? At The Therapeutic Table, we are challenging the status quo by creating a platform that centers your experiences and provides the resources you need to succeed.
